Exports from Arctic LNG Likely Delayed

LNG exports from the Arctic LNG-2 facility are delayed and are likely to start in March at the earliest as Novatek is awaiting a delivery of a tanker fleet for the project from South Korea according to Kommersant, citing sources.

  • The South Korean Hanwha Ocean shipyard is expected to deliver six tankers for Arctic LNG-2 this year. The first tanker is still in South Korea and may take at least one month to be delivered.
  • Russian Deputy PM Alexander Novak said late last month the facility may ship the first cargo in February.
  • Last year, the US imposed sanctions on the project which caused several delays to the start up.
