Exxon’s Baytown Refinery to Start 40 day Turnaround of Crude Unit

Exxon’s 564kb/d Baytown refinery is starting a turnaround on the biggest of three crude units this week as part of maintenance on several units over the next several weeks according to Bloomberg sources.

  • The first major maintenance on the 280kb/d Pipestill 8 since early 2019 will last 35-40 days plus at least several additional days to return to normal operations.
  • A 55kb/d companion vacuum distillate unit was shut on 20 Sep according to Wood Mackenzie’s Genscape.
  • The work may also include other units in the Fuels North Section which contains a naphtha hydrofining unit, powerformer, crude light end towers, kerosene and light gas oil hydrofining units, residfiner, hydrogen plant, sulfur recovery units and water treatment plant.
  • Crude is supplied by pipeline from Texas and Canada and supplemented by crude from the Persian Gulf, Africa, South America and Mexico.
