- Monday saw 141,385 people in hospitals with covid-19 across the United States. This figure is close to the previous peak of 142,273 set on January 14 2021.
- The high transmissibility of the Omicron variant means that hospitalisation are likely to pass that number during the current surge. Disease modelers have predicted that hospitalisations in the 275,000 to 300,000 range are probable by the end of the month.
- President Joe Biden has stated ambitions to maintain current Covid protocols but more restrictions are possible if hospitalisations continue to rise.
