Federal Reserve Vice Chair Barr To Deliver Remarks On Bank Capital

Federal Reserve Vice Chair for Supervision, Michael Barr, is shortly due to appear at the Bipartisan Policy Center today to deliver remarks on capital rules and reforms of the banking system. 10:00 ET 14:00 BST:Livestream of Event

  • The Bipartisan Policy Center said in a statement: "The Federal Reserve and other financial regulators have been reviewing [a string of bank] failures to determine the adequacy of the existing regulatory framework and consider where changes may be needed, including the adoption of changes to risk measurements by proposing the “Basel III endgame” rules."
  • According to the center, "Barr [will] discuss his thinking on these issues, with a particular focus on bank capital requirements."
  • Reps Andy Barr (R-KY) and Bill Foster (D-IL) of the House Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Monetary Policy said: “In the wake of the recent bank failures, and the qualitatively new features of internet-driven bank runs, we agree that it is important that capital and liquidity standards are both adequate to protect the system yet tailored carefully to avoid incurring additional stress..."
