Finance Minister Expected To Announce Support For PetroPeru This Week

  • Bloomberg ran comments from Peru's Finance Minister Alex Contreras on Friday, indicating that PetroPeru will meet all its payments to bondholders, seeking to reassure investors over the state oil company’s finances. "Petroperu will also receive liquidity in the short-term, although Contreras said he would only give details next week." – BBG
  • Peru's trade balance registered a surplus of US$17.4 billion in 2023, the Central Reserve Bank reported on Sunday. This marks eight consecutive years of positive results and exceeded the record level of US$15.0 billion recorded in 2021. Separately, unemployment data for January and December economic activity are both scheduled for release on Thursday.
