Finance Minister Says EC Is “Holding Back” Economic Growth

Finance Minister Mihaly Varga said the European Commission "owes" Hungary a "significant sum of money" and blamed the EU executive for "holding back" the country's economic growth after meeting the European Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn in Budapest, MTI report.
  • Hungary demands an answer concerning the lifting of a suspension of its Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) funding, Varga said in a statement issued by his ministry.
  • Hungary's GDP growth, which reached 4.6% last year, would have been "over 5%" if the country's EU funding hadn't been held back, he said.
