Finnish PM-Need To Balance Energy Market w/Russia Sanctions

Euronews' Shona Murray on Finnish PM Sanna Marin's comments to press following her speech to the European Parliament:

  • 'On Finnish NATO membership she says rule of law important. Her gov won’t make decisions relating to Erdogan’s demands to deport anyone. The courts will do it, she says.'
  • 'Sanctions are the only way to make Russia weaker’, but we also have to make sure we don’t disturb the energy market.’ ‘We need to balance functioning of market, and sanctions necessary to target Russia, but overall we are for more sanctions to make Russia weaker.'

Comes as Czech energy minister Jozef Sikela confirms that another emergency EUCO meeting of member state energy ministers will take place on 30 September to finalise plans for dealing with energy price hike/supply crunch. That gives two weeks for further negotiations between member states on what is feasible regarding gas price caps and other areas of focus.
