Finnish Wind Pipeline Climbs to 140GW

Finland’s wind pipeline currently sits at 140GW, with 73GW being onshore and the remaining share for offshore wind farms, according to Renewables Finland.

  • 400MW of Offshore wind has been fully permitted, with about 36.6GW currently undergoing their EIA assessments and 21.7GW in the pre-screening phase.
  • In contrast, 2.69GW of onshore wind is under construction, with about 3.4GW fully permitted.
  • The majority of the onshore wind farms are located in central Finland, with offshore parks found off the west.
  • Swedish firm OX2 has the highest amount of capacity planned at around 23GW, with Ilmatar and Suomen second and third, respectively, at just under 20GW.
  • "The wind power projects currently under construction alone will bring over three billion euros in investments to Finland by the end of 2025,” The Finnish wind association said.
