FM Kuleba: Need Affirmation Of Ukraine's Status As Part Of EU Project

Speaking alongside his French counterpart, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba states that Kyiv 'needs a concrete affirmation of Ukraine's status as part of the European integration project'.

  • Earlier today ahead of the European Council meeting in Brussels, Estonian PM Kaja Kallas stated that there was work underway to have an EU membership agreement for Ukraine by June.
  • However, there are likely to be numerous obstacles to a swift accession for Ukraine. Many nations are uneasy about fast-tracking Ukraine ahead of other applicant nations that have engaged in years of reform and negotiations in order to reach candidate status.
  • Concerns about both the strength of Ukraine's democratic institutions, and its future fiscal positions are also potential blockers on Kyiv's ambitions to join the bloc swiftly.
