FM Lavrov: Russia Has Not Discussed Black Sea Grain Deal With China

WHEAT

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking at a United Nations press briefing in New York, has stated that Russia has not consulted with China on the Black Sea grain deal, which remains on the verge of collapsing.

  • Lavrov: "The situation is not being resolved... [it] has been deadlocked by our Western partners."
  • Lavrov: "Less than 3% of all volumes of grain that has gone from Ukrainian ports has ended up in the poorest countries... The rest of the grain has gone to rich or medium rich countries."
  • Lavrov: "The West does not want to allow our grain and fertiliser to get to market... there are practically no results on our part of the deal."
  • Yesterday, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres wrote a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin proposing, a "way forward aimed at the improvement, extension and expansion" of the deal, according to a UN spokesperson.
  • Lavrov says he hopes the contents of the letter "has hot leaked to the media" and reveals that the UN Sec Gen issued letters to Turkey and Ukraine too.
