Foreign Min: Talks At Sensitive Stage, West Must Take Serious Approach

Speaking at a joint presser with his Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian states that he sees the Vienna talks over the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA) as 'at a sensitive stage'.

  • Says that 'the few remaining points need a serious approach from the Western side'. Amirabdollahian also questions whether direct talks with the US would be 'productive'.
  • Says that Iran will not concede on its red lines, but that he hoped the remaining issues would be resolved in 'the next few days'.
  • Earlier, Amirabdollahian stated that he expected a prisoner exchange between the United States and Iran to take place soon.
  • Israeli PM Naftali Bennett has continued treading a fine line between criticising the JCPoA without criticising the US. On Sunday, Bennett stated that “We may see an agreement shortly....[the new deal] is shorter and weaker than the previous one”.
