France FM: Window Closing For Iran To Revive Nuclear Deal

France's foreign minister Catherine Colonna has told reporters ahead of the United Nations General Assembly in New York that, "there wouldn’t be a better offer for Iran to revive JCPOA and it is up to Tehran to take the right decisions now because the window to find a solution is closing and no initiatives are underway to unblock the situation."

  • There has been mixed messaging out of Tehran today. Reuters reported earlier today that the Iranian delegation may be willing to meet with US officials on the sidelines of the UNGA. Tehran has since nixed the possibility of such meetings.
  • Iran’s nuclear chief Mohammad Eslami said a short time ago that the IAEA may be preparing to drop an investigation into nuclear activity which Tehran claims is politically motivated, although this hasn't yet been confirmed by any Western sources.
  • Eslami: "There have been messages from [the International Atomic Energy Agency] showing they intend to close the case. We hope they’re honest & don't waste more time… Their political will is now to impose pressure, but their political will needs to focus on closing the case."
