French Amb. Summoned After For. Min Says Israel Heading For 'Apartheid'

ISRAEL

Israel's Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi has summoned the French ambassador following comments made on Sunday by France's Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian saying on a news programme that the "risk of apartheid is high [if Israel acts] according to a single-state logic...Even the status quo produces that."

  • PM Benjamin Netanyahu has already slammed the French minister, saying that "The minister said that Israel was liable to become an apartheid state – a brazen, false claim that is without any foundation,"
  • Ashkenazi stated to the ambassador that "The foreign minister's words are unacceptable, unfounded and far from reality. Israel expects its friends not to express themselves irresponsibly, which gives rise to extremist elements and anti-Israel activity."
