French, German Economy Ministers Push Back On Putin Gas Demands

Following on from 1413BST bullet (Russian Pres. Putin demanding payment for gas in roubles, active contracts halted if demands not met), Reuters reports German Economy Minister and Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck has stated that 'we are prepared for anything Putin might decide on gas'. Habeck states that he 'has not yet seen any new gas bill from Russia'.
  • Habeck: "We will not be blackmailed by Putin".
  • French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire has stated that 'gas contacts in euro will be paid in euros'
  • Putin says 'Europeans will be forced to pay for LNG from the USA. That means millions of job losses for Europe. [The West's] economic war against Russia started years ago. The goal is to undermine Russia's development. Western sanctions had been prepared beforehand.'
