Futures Benefit From Offshore Impetus Overnight

JGBS

Futures added 11 ticks in overnight trade on the back of the dynamic witnessed in U.S. Tsys, although finished a little shy of their post-Tokyo peak. The degree of local follow through will be eyed in early Tokyo dealing.

  • Most of the focus within local press circles continues to fall on this weekend's election.
  • On the COVID front, a Kyodo sources piece noted that the gov't is planning to relax restrictions surrounding large-scale events from Monday. The report suggested that the decision may be finalised as soon as today, following discussions between Japan's panel of COVID experts.
  • The BoJ will issue its latest monetary policy decision later today, but this should be a non-event for markets, as noted in our BoJ preview. Elsewhere, local retail sales data is due to be released.
