G7 Releases Joint Statement On Russian Referenda

The German G7 leadership has released a joint G7 statement on the referenda which began today within Russian occupied Ukrainian territory to formally join the Russian Federation.

  • Statement: "The G7 strongly condemn sham referenda Russia attempts to use to create phony pretext for changing status of Ukrainian sovereign territory. Sham referenda initiated today by Russia and its proxies have no legal effect or legitimacy."
  • "We never recognise these referenda which appear to be step towards Russian annexation and we will never recognise purported annexation if it occurs."
  • "We deplore deliberate Russian escalatory steps, including partial mobilisation of reservists and irresponsible nuclear rhetoric."
