Gas Investment Necessary for Asia: Argus
LNG
Asia’s LNG market faces many uncertainties, but a failure to continue investing would be unwise as it is necessary for economic growth, according to speakers at the Association of Energy Negotiators' International Energy Summit in Bangkok, cited by Argus.
- Gas projects are already at risk of not receiving funding because the current LNG market outlook is unclear, with short-term price volatility, rolling blackouts, power reduction, and supply uncertainty affecting market participants, said Steve Morrell, senior vice-president of ExxonMobil PNG LNG.
- Buyers are struggling to commit to long-term projects due to uncertainty over the energy transition and how that will impact the LNG business, Argus said.
- There are three areas that will evolve within the current LNG model, Andrew Kirk, vice-president of origination, LNG at conglomerate B Grimm said: new buyers in emerging markets, affordability of low-emission LNG, and additional flexibility in contracting.
