Gasum Says Russia To Cut Gas Supply On Saturday

Wires reporting that Finland's state-owned Gasum has stated that Russia intends to cut off its natural gas supply to Finland from 0400GMT on Saturday. Gasum has stated that it will continue to supply its customers through the summer season from other sources through the Baltic connector pipeline.

  • While 60-70% of Finland's gas comes from Russia, it only accounts for 5% of the country's energy mix according to Statistics Finland.
  • The cut is a response from Moscow to Finland's official application to join NATO, which was submitted earlier this week.
