NATGAS: German Gas Consumption Rises 16.8% w/w in Week to Feb. 9

German natural gas consumption in the week to Feb. 9 increased 16.8% from the previous week but still 9.8% below the 2018-21 average, Bnetza data showed. Industrial demand increased by 13.4% on the week while demand from households and small businesses surged 20.45% higher.

  • Industrial gas consumption rose to 2,093GWh/d in the week compared to 2024 levels of 1,609GWh but 5.1% below the 2018-21 average. Gas consumption from electricity generation is also included in the data.
  • Demand from households and small businesses was up to 2,032GWh/d last week, compared to 1,450GWh/d in 2024 but still 14.1% below the 2018-21 average.
  • German gas demand stood 13.2% below the 2018-21 average the week prior.
  • Natural gas inventories in Germany are down to 46.97% full on Feb. 11 from 52.38% a week ago, GIE data shows. Withdrawal rates have rebounded back above normal after a dip late last week.
