German Gas Demand Rose Above Normal in Week to June 9

NATGAS

German natural gas consumption in the week to June 9 increased 19% from the previous week and was 11.3% above the 2018-21 average, Bnetza data showed. Industrial demand surged up 21.7% on the week while demand from households and small businesses was up by 8.2%.

  • Industrial gas consumption rose to 1,425GWh/d last week compared to 2023 levels of 1,020GWh and 12.5% above the 2018-21 average. Gas consumption from electricity generation is also included in the data.
  • Demand from households and small businesses also rose to 316GWh/d last week, from 236GWh/d in 2023 and 6.4% above the 2018-21 average.
  • German gas demand stood 9% below the 2018-21 average the week prior.
  • Natural gas inventories in Germany have slowly risen with below normal injection rates again this week taking stores to 75.54% full on June 11 from 73.35% a week earlier.
