German Renewables Plan Could Reduce Gas Generation by 9%

Germany approved the Easter Package on Jul 7, a medium-term plan to boost renewables capacity and reduce energy imports.

  • They aim to boost renewables capacity, growing onshore wind capacity by 86% and the solar fleet by 226% from 2023-2030.
  • The plan could increase wind and solar generation by 19% a year and cut gas used for power generation sector by 9% per year according to Bloomberg. Gas savings are expected to peak in 2027, when generation is forecast to be 10TWh below the Base Case Scenario.
