German Weekly Gas Demand fell 34.2% Below 2018-21 Average

German natural gas consumption last week fell 34.2% below the 2018-21 average, as demand from households and small businesses fell 51.5% below the average, Bnetza data showed.

  • Industrial gas consumption stood at 1,229GWh/d last week, slightly below 2023 levels of 1,299GWh and 22.1% below the 2018-21 average.
  • Demand from households and small businesses has drifted to 529GWh/d last week, down from 1,061GWh/d in 2023 and 51.5% below the 2018-21 average.
  • German gas demand stood 32.7% below the 2018-21 average the week prior.
  • Natural gas inventories in Germany were at 68.90% on 16 April, up from 67.89==96% a week earlier, GIE data showed.
