Germany Can Last 2.5 Months Without Russian Gas This Winter

Germany can last 2.5 months without Russian gas if storage gets to 100% and usage is that of an average winter the national regulator has said.

  • "If [gas] storages are mathematically 100% full, we would manage to last without any Russian gas at all for two and a half months. Then the storages will be empty," President of the German Federal Network Agency Klaus Muller told CDF television in an interview.
  • Muller stressed the need for Germany to find additional gas suppliers and save gas where possible.
  • Gazprom is currently supplying gas via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline at 40%, citing maintenance issues regarding a turbine stuck in Canada due to sanctions.
