Germany Plan to Move Lubmin FLNG to Nearby Rügen

LNG

The German government plans to move the FLNG terminal from Lubmin to nearby Rügen’s Mukran port.

  • Since the start of operations in January the Lubmin terminal has received complaints from residents about environmental effects and high noise levels.
  • Moving the floating terminal to Rügen “would have significant economic and ecological advantages,” said Economy Minister Robert Habeck. Rügen already has plans for another LNG terminal.
  • Habeck is traveling to Mukran on Friday for further talks on the plans.
  • The Lubmin terminal is one of a total of six FSRU’s planned this year to replace Russian gas pipeline flows with three already in operation at Wilhelmshaven, Brunsbuettel and Lubmin.
