Global Weekly LNG Imports Edged Higher Last Week

Global weekly LNG imports edged up by 2% to 8.7mn tons during 22-28 January, as lower volumed to NW Europe and Italy were offset by slightly shipments to China, southern Europe, South Asia and the Americas according to BNEF.

  • Imports into JKCT rose by 0.16mn tons last week to 4.52mn tons. South Asian imports rose by 0.15mn tons to 0.73mn tons.
  • Shipments to NW Europe and Italy declined to 1.49mn tons, from 1.75mn tons the week before.
  • Weekly LNG exports fell by 3% on the week to 8.1mn tons, supported by higher output from the US.
  • US LNG exports last week rose by 0.33mn tons to 1.94mn tons. Despite the outage of one liquefaction train at the Freeport LNG facility, Freeport exports rose to four from three the week prior.
  • Weekly laden LNG vessel transits via key routes stood at 20, down from 22 the week before. No vessels transited the Suez Canal, while journeys via the Cape of Good Hope stood at 19, compared with 20 the week before. Panama Canal crossing fell from two to one.
