Free AccessGOP Rep. McHenry-We Have Votes To Pass Debt Limit Bill Today
Speaking to CNBC, Republican Congressman Patrick McHenry (R-NC) states that he believes that there are the votes to pass the debt ceiling bill in the House of Representatives today. McHenry has been one of the lead GOP negotiators on the debt limit bill.
- Last night the House Rules Committee voted 7-6 in favour of sending the bill to a floor vote. The bill is seen as likely to pass in a floor vote, with moderate Dems and Republicans setting aside party enmity in order to avert a catastrophic default. CNN reports: 'Republicans believe they are pushing toward 150 Republican votes or more, two sources told CNN.'
- The opposition to the bill from both the far-left of the Democratic House caucus and from the far-right of the Republican party (with Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Representatives Matt Gaetz (R-FL), Lauren Bobert (R-CO) and Ralph Norman (R-SC) set to vote against) is seen as demonstrative of the bipartisan appeal of the legislation.
