Health Min Calls For 'Political Signal' To Break COVID-19 4th Wave

GERMANY

Speaking alongside the head of Germany's premier health institute, Acting Health Minister Jens Spahn has called for a 'common political signal' to break the fourth wave of COVID-19 infections currently hitting Germany.

  • Spahn called for all individuals, even if vaccinated or recently recovered from COVID-19, to be tested for the virus at mass events.
  • Free COVID-19 home tests will also be reinstated from Saturday in an effort to catch localised flare-ups in cases.
  • There remains the possibility that one or more German states seek to reimpose lockdown restrictions depending on how the levels of hospitalisations from the virus fare. This could prove a very early crisis for the prospective 'traffic light' coalition gov't of the SPD, Greens and FDP being negotiated at present.
