Health Min: COVID Still Not Under Control But Restrictions To End Soon

German Health Minister Dr Karl Lauterbach has stated that the German COVID-19 situation is still not under control. Says that he expects the peak of infections to come around mid-February.

  • On a positive note, though, he states that he expects COVID restrictions to be able to be lifted 'long before Easter' (17 April).
  • While cases continue to increase at a high rate for Germany, hospitalisations due to the Omicron variant remain low.
  • Many restrictions in Germany are decided at the state rather than federal level, with some including Bavaria, Brandenburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Saxony having eased or announced easing in the coming days.
