Health Of Lt Gov Fetterman Dominates Crucial Senate Race

US

The Pennsylvania Senate race between Democrat Lt Gov John Fetterman (D-PA) and Trump-endorsed celebrity surgeon Mehmet Oz is being increasing fought on the health of Fetterman following a stroke he suffered in May.

  • Throughout the summer, while Fetterman was recuperating, the race looked like a comfortable pickup for Democrats and seen as easing Democrats towards retaining control of the Senate.
  • That dynamic has shifted since Fetterman has returned to the campaign trail and faced greater scrutiny on his suitability for office from the Oz campaign.
  • Earlier today, Fetterman released a letter from his physician saying: "Overall Lt. Governor Fetterman is well [...] He has no work restrictions and can work full duty in public office."
  • In response Oz said in a statement: "As physicians, we understand the permanent damage that may result from a stroke... Fetterman must release his medical records, anything less is nothing short of deception."
  • With the political environment now favouring the GOP, the Pennsylvania Senate race is looking increasingly like a must-win for Democrats if they are to retain the Senate.
  • Fetterman and Oz will hold one public debate on Oct. 25.
