Historic Lebanon/Israel Maritime Border Agreed

Lebanon and Israel have reached an agreement on a disputed maritime border according to Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid.

  • "This is a historic achievement that will strengthen Israel's security, inject billions into Israel's economy, and ensure the stability of our northern border,” Lapid said in a statement.
  • Lebanese President Michel said earlier that the terms of the final draft received from US envoy Amos Hochstein satisfied Lebanon and he hoped the deal would be announced as soon as possible.
  • The dispute about the maritime border has been long running and has heavily delayed plans to develop gas fields in the region that could be a key source of supply for Europe.
