Home Secretary Braverman Departs-Guardian

The Guardian reporting that Home Secretary Suella Braverman has departed office following a meeting with PM Liz Truss in the House of Commons.

  • Guardian: "Suella Braverman is understood to have departed as UK home secretary after Liz Truss cleared her diary and called off a planned visit amid desperate attempts to save her premiership, the Guardian has been told.There is speculation that Grant Shapps, the former transport secretary who strongly backed Rishi Sunak in the Conservative leadership race, will replace Braverman in another sudden revamp of Truss’s government."
Should Braverman - a staunch right-winger and Brexiteer in the Cabinet - be replaced by Shapps - former Transport Secretary and one of the most vocal backers of Rishi Sunak in the Conservative leadership contest - it would mark a further degradation of Truss' already significantly diminished power at the top of the party following Jeremy Hunt becoming chancellor.
