BRIEF: EU Leaders Set For Embargo On 2/3 Russian Oil Exports

EU leaders aim to reach political agreement this afternoon on an embargo on Russian sea-borne oil, covering more than two thirds of total oil imports from Russia, though some “temporary exceptions have been granted to ensure security of supply” for certain EU states, a senior EU official said.

The latest sanctions package would also include “other substantial measures”, the official said, including “de-Swifting” of the largest Russian bank Sberbank, a ban on three further Russian state-owned broadcasters, and a listing of individuals who have committed war crimes in Ukraine.
