House Committee To Work On Legislation To Fix Executive "Document" Problem

US

The Republican Chair of the House Oversight Committee James Comer (R-KY) says that he has agreed to work on a legislative solution to the storage of classified government documents with ranking committee Democrat Rep Jamie Raskin (D-MD).

  • Comer's comments comes as classified documents found in the private possession of former president Donald Trump, President Biden, and former vice president Mike Pence undermine voter confidence in oversight of the executive branch and compel multiple Department of Justice investigations.
  • Comer said: “We have to reform the way that documents are boxed up when they leave the president and vice president's office and follow them into the private sector. This is something I think will be a bipartisan legislative fix… somebody needs to oversee all the documents that are going into boxes.”
  • Gallup reported this morning that “the government” is now the most important problem facing the country, according to US voters, displacing issues relating to the economy and inflation from the top of the list for the first time in over a year.
