House Passes China Competition Bill, Now For Negotiatons w/Senate

The House of Representatives has passed the 'Competes Act', intended to boost US competititveness with China in areas such as microchip and semiconductor manufacturing.

  • The act passed on a broadly party line vote 222-210 , with one Democrat, Florida's Stephanie Murphy, voting against the bill. One Republican, Adam Kinzinger from Illinois, voting in favour.
  • A similar bill was passed last year by the Senate, although with different levels of funding. As such, House and Senate representatives will meet to agree on compromises to reach a joint text that can be sent to President Biden's desk.
