MIDEAST

Wires reporitng comments from Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, leader of the Houthi rebels in Yemen, claiming that the group will target any ships of any company that is involved in supplying or transporting goods to Israel and to any destination these ships are heading to amid 'the Israeli aggression on Rafah.' Al-Houthi claims that the group used 10 missiles and drones during its attacks on commercial shipping over the past week, amid an uptick in Houthi activity in and around the Red Sea.

  • AP reports that according to Houthi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree, "...in a prerecorded statement [Saree] claimed attacks on the MSC Diego and MSC Gina. The Joint Maritime Information Center [...] said those two missile attacks happened early Tuesday. “Neither were hit and all crew on board are safe,” the center said. “The vessels were last reported proceeding to next port of call. ”The center added that the vessels were “likely targeted due to perceived Israeli affiliation.”
  • Earlier in the week, The Maritime Executive reported on the apparent uptick in Houthi attacks as the IDF's operation in Rafah got underway. Over the past week the US, EU, and French naval missions to protect shipping in the region have reported shooting down Houthis UAVs/missiles.
