Hungary to Oppose Any Europe-Wide Russian Energy Ban

  • Hungary has stated it would oppose any European Union effort to ban energy imports from Russia, according to cabinet minister Gulyas, who spoke on HirTV. The comments suggest the European effort to phase out Russian oil by the end of the year may not extend to all EU nations.
  • Gazprom stated over the weekend that the company is fulfilling demand from European clients by supplying gas through Ukraine, despite flow being cut off to countries including Poland and Bulgaria last week. Lavrov added that Moscow will no longer allow the west to “steal” the money Moscow makes through exporting oil and gas.
  • ITAR-TASS cites the Chair of the head of Russia’s Independent Trade Unions Federation as saying that although official figures do not show a rise in the unemployment rate, there are alarming trends in the jobs market, with workers warned of layoffs as well as the departure of foreign firms and investors.
