IAEA Head-Follow Up Talks w/Tehran Following Joint Statement In 7/10 Days

Wires carrying comments from International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi stating that, "Follow-up talks to last weekend's joint statement with Iran will take place in a week to 10 days. It's a matter of calendars." The joint statement saw Iran make (vague) commitments to allow increased monitoring as well as give details on nuclear traces discovered at undeclared sites.

  • The E3 signatories of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA, the Iran nuclear deal) - France, Germany, and the UK - raised significant concerns about the reliability of Tehran's monitoring pledge in their own 8 March joint statement (here) as well as on Iran's non-proliferation safeguards (here).
  • Separately, the IAEA board of governors has also confirmed Grossi's reappointment for a second four-year term as director-general.
