ICE Brent and Gasoil Open Interest Falling This Week

Brent crude futures aggregate open interest has continued to fall this week following a drop after the Dec23 contract expiry. ICE Brent open interest is down to the lowest since January at 2.042m yesterday from over 2.2m at the end of October.

  • Aggregate daily traded futures volumes have averaged near normal so far this month but with a weekly high on Nov 8 falling back to 0.96m yesterday. Aggregate options volumes have been strong but fell back to normal at 158k yesterday.
  • Nymex WTI open interest has drifted slightly lower to 1.659m yesterday. WTI aggregate futures and options daily traded volumes have followed a similar pattern to Brent volumes. Futures were yesterday at 0.80m and options at 0.13m.
  • ICE Gasoil futures open interest has also fallen to the lowest since April down to 0.606m from 0.681m at the start of the month. Daily traded futures volumes were yesterday high at 425k and options volumes at 1.35k.
  • Nymex RBOB gasoline futures open interest is holding fairly steady this month at 0.321m yesterday while daily traded volumes were yesterday up at 174k.
