Immigration Top Concern For GOP Primary Voters

US

Republican presidential primary exit polls suggest that immigration will be the central political wedge issue of the 2024 presidential election, and likely play a major role in down ballot Congressional races.

  • According to an array exit polls conducted by NBC News in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Virginia, North Carolina, California and Ohio, voters said either immigration or the economy was the most important issue for them.
  • NBC notes that, "just under 7 in 10 GOP primary voters said undocumented immigrants in the U.S. should be deported..." mirroring a policy position Trump has advocated for, claiming he will enact, “the largest domestic deportation operation in American history."
  • NBC notes that, "Republican primary voters also expressed broad dissatisfaction with the state of the economy..."
