Iran Seeks To Strengthen Regional Ties Ahead Of JCPOA Deal

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian met today with his Lebanese counterpart Abdullah Bou Habib to promise infrastructure investment in the event of a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) deal.

  • Amirabdollahian: 'If the agreement reaches final point, all the countries in the region will benefit from it.'
  • Amirabdollahian: 'We have not reached an end point in Vienna. We want nothing but the Lebanese people, Iran is ready to build two 1,000-megawatt power plants in Lebanon to solve lebanon's electricity problem Ready to endorse a good, strong and lasting agreement.'
  • The US and Iran have both stated that they are ready to do a deal if conditions are met on both sides. The current point of contention is the US designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organisation.
  • Russia's chief diplomat at the JCPOA talks Mikhail Ulyanov said he met with his Iranian counterpart today in Vienna and talks were ready to resume. This could happen as soon as tomorrow.
