ISRAEL: IDF Chief Hints At Impending Ground Operation As US Pushes Ceasefire

ISRAEL

A number of outlets reporting that according to IDF Chief of Staff, Major General Herzi Halevi, Israeli forces preparing to launch a ground operation into Lebanon, marking what would be a significant escalation of the conflict beyond the already sizeable airstrikes that have taken place in recent days. Speaking on a visit to the Israeli-Lebanese border region, Ynet reports Halevi saying to various commanders, "We are not stopping. The planes are attacking all day, and we are preparing for a maneuver. [...] Hezbollah expanded its circle of fire today, and later today will receive a very strong response. You will prepare. The goal is very clear - to return the residents of the north."

  • Halevi's comments come amid continued US efforts to de-escalate the situation. Barak Ravid at Walla News reports "The Biden administration is working on an initiative for a temporary ceasefire in Lebanon. An announcement on the matter may be published today....One of the proposals being considered is a ceasefire for a few weeks. However, senior Israeli officials say that negotiations are still underway on the issue."
