/ISRAEL: Israel Asked Russia To Help Evacuate Israelis If It Attacks Ukraine

Israel has asked Russia to help evacuate its citizens from Ukraine if Moscow decides to launch an attack, senior Israeli sources told Axios. The request was reportedly conveyed by the Director-General of Israel's Foreign Ministry to Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister in a phone call on Wednesday.

  • Israel has already evacuated 3,000 of its citizens from Ukraine but believes around 10,000 more remain in the country. Official communique issued by Israel and Russia in the wake of Wednesday's talks did not mention the request.
  • Israel has been trying to remain on the sidelines of the Russia-Ukraine standoff to avoid alienating any side of the conflict. Earlier this week, Ynet reported that Israel has vetoed the U.S. plan to sell several batteries of the Iron Dome defence system to Ukraine.
