Itaú Acknowledge Slow Progress For Government Reforms

  • Itaú have noted that government reforms are advancing slowly through congress in Colombia. The bank notes that with a debate postponed last week due to a lack of quorum, progress for the health reform in the Plenary of the Lower House has been gradual.
    • So far, 57.7% of the reform proposal has been approved in the Plenary of the Lower House.
    • Meanwhile, the government re-submitted the labour reform to the Lower House Commission, where the reform's proposal has to be evaluated in the commission before the first debate starts.
    • Falling approval and a weakened government coalition indicate that the administration may face further pressure to water down structural reforms in Congress, according to Itau.
