JAPAN-ROK: NSA Sullivan - Summit Marks New Era Of Trilateral Cooperation

White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has told reporters that today's Camp David summit between President Biden, Republican of Korea President Yoon Suk Yeol, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, "marks a new era of trilateral cooperation."

  • Sullivan says, "these alliances are stronger than they've been at any point in modern memory," adding breakthroughs are largely due to Biden's interpersonal diplomatic skills.
  • Sullivan says that leaders are putting, "pen to paper to say we will meet annually at leader level and at every significant level of government."
  • Sullivan: "We are opening a new era and making sure that era has staying power," ... leaders will unveil, "new economic and energy security initiatives, including an early warning system for supply chain disruptions."
  • Sullivan says US intelligence is, "taking a hard look at" anew reportsuggesting nuclear collaboration between Russia and North Korea.
  • Sullivan says the summit is, "explicitly not a NATO for the Pacific," or 'mini NATO,' as has been alleged by some Chinese media reports.
  • Biden, Kishida, and Yoon will hold a joint press conference following the conclusion of the summit at around 15:00 ET 20:00 BST.
