JCPOA In Further Doubt As E3 And US To Push For Iran Resolution

Reuters has reported that the United States, France, Britain and Germany are pushing for the UN nuclear watchdog the IAEA to 'rebuke Iran for failing to answer longstanding questions on uranium traces at undeclared sites.'

  • Reuters claims that the E3 and US have previously avoided pushing for such a resolution for fears of derailing the JCPOA talks with Iran and it is likely that the submission of a resolution to rebuke Iran will further damage the prospect of a revival of the stalled talks.
  • Reuters says the draft resolution: 'calls upon Iran to act on an urgent basis to fulfil its legal obligations and take up immediately the (IAEA) Director General's offer of further engagement to clarify and resolve all outstanding safeguards issues.'
