JET FUEL: Global Airline Passenger Capacity Falls 0.3% on Week: OAG

Global airline passenger capacity is set to decline to 117.16m seats in the seven days commencing from Sep. 09, OAG said.

  • This represents a fall of 0.3% on the previous week and takes global capacity to its lowest level since June. 3.
  • This week's decline continues to exceed that predicted by the previous forward schedule by 0.65m, as airlines shed seats after the summer peak.
  • Domestic capacity is up 0.16% on the week to 67.91m seats.
  • Meanwhile, international capacity is down 0.94% on the week to 49.25m seats.
  • Total global capacity across September will be 505m seats in September, up 5.2% on the year and in line with the trend in recent months, OAG said.
  • Northeast Asia leads the way in volume of seats and accounts for 6.5m of the total September increase. This equates to a year-on-year growth of 6.3%.
