Kier Starmer To Deliver "Brexit Speech" This Evening

UK
This evening, Labour leader Kier Starmer will outline his Brexit strategy in a behind-closed-doors speech at the Centre for European Reform.
  • Starmer tweeted today: "We must focus on the opportunities of the future, not the divisions of the past. Today, I’m setting out how Labour will make Brexit work for the whole country."
  • According to a Financial Times preview: "Starmer will insist that a Labour government would not seek to rejoin the EU’s single market or customs union or reintroduce freedom of movement — let alone seek to reverse the 2016 Leave vote."
  • The FT continues "Starmer will say, nothing about revisiting those rows will help stimulate growth or bring down food prices or help British business thrive in the modern world – it would simply be a recipe for more division."
  • George Parker of FT: "Five point plan includes a veterinary deal to end onerous agrifood checks, mutual recognition of conformity certificates, a quick deal on NI Protocol, moves to make short-term business trips and music tours easier and a security pact."
  • RTE: "...[Starmer] will argue his vision [for Brexit] is "very different" to the Tories' stance, which he argues is "about cutting standards, regulations and protections before stepping back and gawping at the power of the market".
  • According to the Labour Party, Starmer will reclaim the center ground: "While the Conservatives are flailing around, lashing out, and attempting to sow division, Labour has been claiming the centre ground of British politics once again."
