Kochalski Comments Show Continued Division Among MPC

POLAND
  • Local press continues to focus on the withholding of EU fund payouts, with a number of outlets covering Morawiecki’s statement yesterday, which sees no threat to EU payouts despite the EC’s issues with the overhaul of the judiciary.
  • Later today, the Constitutional Tribunal are to start a hearing on whether interim measures laid down by the ECJ are inline with Poland’s constitution – another potential flashpoint for EU/Poland relations.
  • Divisions among the NBP MPC persist, with Kochalski this morning seeing no scope for large rate rises, with the tightening phase so far seeing a “spectacular” rise in the benchmark rate, according to an interview with TVN24.
  • Consumer confidence data for October crosses later today at 10am local time (0900BST), expected at -44.7.
