Kremlin-Gazprom Supplying Europe With As Much Gas As Possible

Wires carrying comments from Kremlin spox Dmitri Peskov:

  • Kremlin: Gazprom is supplying Europe with as much gas as is possible. Gazprom remains a reliable supplier but cannot guarantee supplies if foreign equipment can not be serviced due to sanctions.
  • Peskov: Gazprom will be able to pump more once turbines fixed; Pumping what it can now amid technical issues.
  • Kremlin: Russia, Iran to work on gas exports to Oman, Pakistan.
  • Kremlin: It is positive that Europeans have understood how essential the Kaliningrad transit question is to Russia.
  • Peskov: Moscow will respond in kind to EU upholding ban on Russia Today media outlet.
In response to the gas supply constraints, CNN reports, "A US official said the move was retaliation for western sanctions, and that it put the West in "uncharted territory [...].This was our biggest fear". The US gov't is believed to be working behind the scenes in an attempt to shore up EU member state support for maintaining sanctions on Russia, as concerns about the economic impact of energy supply constraints grow.
