Kremlin - Killing Of Tatarsky Justifies "Special Military Operation"

SECURITY

Comments from the Kremlin hitting wires claiming that the killing of pro-war Russian blogger, Vladlen Tatarsky, in a bomb attack in St. Petersburg may have been perpetrated by Ukrainian special forces and supports a Russian assertion that Ukraine poses a direct military threat to the Russian Federation and therefore provides justification for their "special military operation" in Ukraine.

  • Kremlin comments via Reuters: "Killing of military blogger [Tatarsky] was a terrorist act."
  • "There is evidence Ukraine special services were involved with preparing this terrorist act."
  • "Kyiv regime supports terrorist acts," [and] "may be behind killing of Tatarsky."
  • "Ukraine is behind many murders since 2014, that's why we're conducting special military operation."
  • The attack on a café in St. Petersburg is the most high-profile attack on a supporter of the Russian invasion of Ukraine since Darya Dugina, daughter of unofficial Kremlin ideologue Aleksandr Gelyevich Dugin, was killed by a car bomb in August.
  • The killing of Dugina prompted Moscow to intensify bombardments of civilian targets with Ukraine and the killing of Tatarsky is likely to illicit a similar response from Russia.
